Quick test:  Is this man passing a kidney stone, or has he just now spotted the heartless bastard who killed his childhood pet?  Or, maybe he's racing a tippy little hydrofoil at ridiculous speed, and the focus, concentration, and murderous competitiveness he's feeling are right there at the surface.  All we know is that the phrase "friendly competition" in this case is probably an oxymoron - oh, and if we saw that coming after us, we'd run!
